A fire on Jacksonville's Mid-Westside resulted in one death and two firefighter injuries yesterday morning. The Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department (JFRD) responded to a house fire at around 8:15 a.m. in the 1400 block of McConihe Street. One person, believed to have died from smoke inhalation, was found dead at the scene, as News4Jax reported.
According to First Coast News, large plumes of smoke were visible from I-95 as firefighters rushed to forcibly break through into the flaming structure.
A neighbor described seeing the flames and breaking a window to help, but he was met with silence while waiting for first responders. It was later revealed that the woman who lived at the property owned several homes in Jacksonville and was well-known in the neighborhood for her charitable work and kindness.
Action News Jax reported that two firefighters were injured while responding to the fire. The investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
