Orange County deputies have put an end to a two-month search by arresting a man in connection with an armed bank robbery, which occurred in Lake Forest in October. As reported by FOX LA, the suspect, identified as Edward Eugene Redd, allegedly discharged a firearm during the robbery at a Chase Bank but fortunately, no one was hurt.
The incident unfolded around noon on Oct. 17, when local authorities rushed to the bank following reports of the crime. By the time responders arrived on the scene, the suspect had already fled. In the initial aftermath, Redd evaded capture even as a detailed search unfolded. Descriptions from security footage painted a picture of the suspect clad in gloves, jeans, a hoodie, a mask, and a bucket hat, armed with a gun, but this garb was not enough to shield Redd from the reach of law enforcement forensics, as detailed by FOX LA.
Investigators were able to link Redd to the crime scene with DNA evidence, a linchpin in the case that led to his early morning arrest on Dec. 13, in line with details obtained from the Orange County Sheriff's Department. The Sheriff's Southwest Investigations and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team executed the apprehension at Redd's Lake Forest home, without incident.
Redd is now facing serious charges including assault with a deadly weapon, and robbery. As he was booked into the Orange County Jail, authorities continued their investigation to rule out his connection to any other similar crimes – though, at present, they believe this to be an isolated incident. The sheriff's department invites anyone who might have additional information to step forward. Tips can be directed to their main line, or anonymously through Orange County Crime Stoppers.
