A hit-and-run incident in Pahrump last Saturday evening resulted in the death of a bicyclist and the arrest of a motorist. The crash occurred at 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Kellogg Road and Squaw Valley Road, about 62 miles west of Las Vegas. The Nevada State Police reported that a man riding an electric bike failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a Volvo sedan.
According to Fox5 Vegas, a Volvo heading eastbound was unable to avoid colliding with a cyclist despite the driver's attempts to steer away. The crash, which occurred when the bicycle was struck by the vehicle’s front end, resulted in the cyclist, 42-year-old Jesus Eulajo Espinoza of Pahrump, being thrown from his electric bike. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Volvo fled the area, prompting a police search.
The driver of the Volvo involved in a deadly accident was located at a residence in Pahrump and arrested on charges of fleeing the scene. The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol’s Traffic Homicide Unit is leading the investigation. As mentioned by Fox5 Vegas, there have been 73 fatal crashes and 81 deaths in the jurisdiction of Nevada State Police Southern Command this year, though these numbers are still subject to final investigations and coroner reports, as noted by 8 News Now.
