Two individuals have found themselves on the wrong side of the law after the Austin Police Department (APD) conducted a "shoplifting blitz" in North Austin shopping centers. Omar Cuellar Sanchez, 43, and Darlene Rodriguez Herrera, 27, were detained on November 22, accused of pocketing merchandise that added up to a grand's worth from various retailers in busy shopping areas like The Domain and Arboretum, as reported by CBS Austin. This sweep was a collaboration between APD's North Metro Tactical Response Unit and approximately 20 local retail merchants.
The crime unfolded at The Shops at Arbor Walk where, reported by Marshall's loss prevention team, spotted the suspects skillfully sidestepping anti-theft systems and maneuvering stolen footwear and wallets into the folds of their clothing. When the duo vacated Marshall's with their pilfered goods, APD officers made their move and apprehended them. According to MSN, the value of this retrieved merchandise was pegged at $312.61.
Charges brought against Sanchez and Rodriguez Herrera were Class B thefts, as detailed by CBS Austin.
