A suspect’s recent attempt to steal an SUV in Petaluma was foiled by local police, which ended with her arrest and the discovery of illegal substances. According to a social media post from the Petaluma Police Department, the department's dispatch center received a call last Sunday regarding an unfamiliar individual who had entered the caller's SUV with the apparent intention of stealing it. The responding officers found the suspect, Lynette Murillo, sitting in the vehicle.
Upon their arrival at the scene, Petaluma Police gave Murillo several commands to exit the vehicle. After a brief period of non-compliance, she exited the SUV and was taken into custody without further complications. In a search that followed, officers retrieved what they suspected to be methamphetamine along with drug paraphernalia. This evidence led to Murillo being charged with not just the attempt to take the vehicle but also with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Following the incident, Murillo was booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility.
