Kemien Sharod Taylor, a 51-year-old man from Port Arthur, was sentenced to 57 months in prison for drug trafficking and a gun violation. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs on Thursday, according to the U.S Attorney's Office.
In November 2023, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a home on 12th Street and found Taylor in a closet with a stolen gun, along with crack cocaine and drug tools like scales and bowls. Taylor, a convicted felon, was not allowed to possess firearms. He pleaded guilty to having a gun as a prohibited person and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone. This case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods program to reduce violent crime, as reported by the U.S Attorney's Office.
Project Safe Neighborhoods, a federal program aimed at reducing violent crime, helped bring Taylor to justice through a collaboration of local, state, and federal agencies. The Port Arthur Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives led the investigation into Taylor’s involvement in violent crime and drug trafficking. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Quinn. PSN focuses on targeting the most violent offenders and using a mix of law enforcement, prevention, and reentry strategies to reduce crime, as stated by the U.S Attorney's Office.
