A chaotic scene unfolded at a Raleigh psychiatric hospital Sunday evening as nearly two dozen young patients became embroiled in a physical altercation, prompting a response from local law enforcement. According to CBS17, the brawl involved approximately 20 girls at Holly Hill Hospital's South Campus, with the fracas reportedly including the use of hands, feet, chairs, and other items as weapons. In the aftermath, six individuals were taken to WakeMed Hospital for observation of possible injuries.
The incident took place just after 6:45 p.m. at the facility located off Sunnybrook Road. Although there were no serious injuries reported, the situation was grave enough to necessitate medical attention for several participants. Disturbingly, many of the children involved in the incident at the mental health institution, which offers both inpatient and outpatient services, are there under involuntary commitment. These details were provided by the WXII12 and WITN reports.
Raleigh Police Department officers were dispatched to quell the disturbance at 201 Michael J. Smith Lane. The staff at Holly Hill Children's Hospital also intervened to break up the hostilities. No injuries were reported by the time authorities restored order, and no arrests have been made in connection to the event, as noted by law enforcement officials.
