The holidays often leave residents with an overflow of cardboard packaging, from online shopping deliveries to gift boxes. Recognizing this seasonal surge, the City of Ramsey has announced the availability of extra cardboard recycling options for its residents. To accommodate the increased volume, two additional dumpsters will be at the ready-for cardboard drop-off at the old Public Works site.
Located at 14100 Jasper Street NW, these dumpsters will be accessible through January 24, 2024. As posted on the City of Ramsey’s official Facebook page, users are reminded to ensure that cardboard is broken down, flattened and, cleaned before placing it in the dumpsters.
The directive from the City highlights that - just as with regular curbside recycling - the cardboard should be free of any food residue, grease, or other contaminants. This step is crucial to ensure that the cardboard is indeed recyclable and doesn't contaminate other materials. Cardboard that fails to meet these cleanliness standards runs the risk of being diverted to the landfill, thus negating the environmental benefits of recycling.
Residents with questions, or those in need of further guidance on cardboard recycling, can reach out to Senior Planner Chris Anderson for assistance. Anderson can be contacted via email at [email protected] or, by phone at 763-433-9817. The initiative underscores the city’s commitment to sustainability and responsible waste management during and, after a time when consumption typically peaks.
