A furnace fire in Randolph has quickly been extinguished by fire crews, leaving a residence on Highland Glen Drive with water and smoke damage but no injuries reported. The Randolph Fire Department was alerted to the situation around 7:15 p.m. last night, with crews arriving to find a house filled with heavy smoke, as reported by JGPR. Responders brought a hose line into the basement and discovered the source of the smoke—a furnace ablaze.

Chief Ronald Cassford commended the firefighters' response, noting, "I wish to commend our firefighters, working on Christmas Eve, who quickly responded and extinguished this fire, preventing further damage to the home," according to JGPR. Their rapid intervention reportedly confined and neutralized the threat within minutes. The fire department conducted what they termed a "fast attack mode" to directly engage with the fire in the basement. The damage was mainly confined to the furnace and basement area, although the house is now without heat and the first floor has suffered from smoke infiltration.

The fire's aftermath has led to the displacement of three residents, who are now being assisted by the American Red Cross. In what can be considered a small mercy, the incident incurred no physical harm to either the returning inhabitants or the attending fire personnel. Mutual aid was provided on scene by Holbrook Fire, with additional coverage for Randolph's fire stations by Braintree, Milton, and Avon Fire Departments, as per JGPR.

While the blaze was quickly brought under control, the cause remains under investigation. Preliminary analysis points to a furnace malfunction as the likely origin, but the official cause has yet to be determined. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been notified, as is standard procedure, as stated by Boston 25 News.
