A nationwide recall has been issued for Northwest Naturals’ 2 lb. Feline Turkey Recipe, a raw and frozen pet food product, following a positive test for bird flu that has been linked to the death of a house cat in Oregon. According to KGW, the product, distributed by Portland-based Morasch Meats, is part of a specific lot with dates of "05/21/26" and "06/23/2026." Customers who have purchased the product are advised to discontinue feeding it to their pets and return it to the place of purchase.
The incident raises concerns about the spread of bird flu among domestic animals, with the Oregon Health Authority actively monitoring the household members who had contact with the affected cat for any symptoms. In addition to the recalled pet food, more than 60 people in eight states have reported mostly mild illnesses from bird flu, with a single severe case resulting in hospitalization in Louisiana, as reported by East Bay Times. The recalled product, apart from being sold in stores nationwide, was also available in British Columbia, Canada.
The Oregon Health Authority, along with local public health officials, is monitoring household members who had contact with the cat for any symptoms, as per KPTV. So far, no human cases of bird flu have been associated with this incident, and authorities report that the risk of bird flu transmission remains low.
