Longtime Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Edward Servitto, affectionately known as Judge Ed, is set to retire at the end of this year, closing the chapter on a distinguished legal career that began on the first day of the new millennium. The  Macomb County official announcement notes his tenure across various divisions, including Family Court and the Civil and Criminal Division. Recognized for his hands-on approach, Judge Ed pioneered one of the county's first specialty courts, the "Mini Court," designed to engage and help realign the paths of young offenders actively.

Before his nearly 24 years on the bench, Judge Ed sharpened his legal acumen as a private practice lawyer, a City Attorney of Warren, Michigan, and in roles that spanned from Assistant Attorney General for Michigan to Special Assistant Attorney General for Wisconsin. Notable for his commitment to consumer protection and healthcare fraud cases, he helped to successfully litigate Michigan's first consumer protection cases and prosecute groundbreaking fraud cases against doctors and pharmacies.

Beyond his legal battles and accolades, Judge Ed's journey is a testament to hard-earned success—earning his Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University and his Juris Doctor cum laude from the Detroit College of Law. His humble beginnings on the West Side of Detroit, toiling as a custodian, shoe salesman, wrecker, and mechanic while studying, speak to a tireless work ethic that propelled him throughout his career.

Earlier this year, as a nod to his profound impact and dedicated service, Judge Servitto was honored with the Justinian Award by the Italian American Bar Association of Michigan. Chief Judge Biernat praised Servitto, stating, "If there was anyone who earned the title of ‘trial court judge’, it’s Ed. He's probably tried more cases in the last 23 years than any circuit court judge in Michigan." These words from an earlier interview echo the respect and admiration held by his peers. Not ready to hang up his gavel, Servitto has expressed his willingness to continue serving as a visiting judge post-retirement, as the Macomb County reported.
