Massachusetts Congresswoman Lori Trahan has publicly expressed her gratitude to the Westford Police Department and other law enforcement agencies following a bomb threat directed at her and her family. According to a Facebook post by Trahan, supported by multiple reports, the threat emerged yesterday morning, prompting an immediate response from local authorities. Trahan emphasized her appreciation, stating, "I am grateful to the excellent officers at the Westford Police Department who responded swiftly to ensure our safety."
This incident occurs amidst a surge of hostility against political figures, as noted by reports from NBC Boston. Trahan mentioned on social media that she was made aware of the bomb threat that targeted her and her family. The Westford Police's investigation is currently being undertaken alongside the United States Capitol Police and Massachusetts State Police. Just this week, as reported, several members of President-elect Trump's incoming administration were also subject to bomb threats.
In a climate that has seen its fair share of political divisions, threats of this nature have become alarmingly common. "I anticipate as the year comes to an end and we enter 2025, we’ll see more," Todd McGhee, a law enforcement and security expert, told NBC Boston. He added that we may see an increase in threats towards inauguration day, emphasizing that such intimidation efforts, even without the discovery of devices, significantly unnerve the public and political community.
While these threats are easier to make in the digital age, they are no less serious. "Interesting to see the nature of how these threats are going to show up," 7NEWS security expert Todd McGee said, as reported, acknowledging the evolution of threat delivery from physical to digital means. With this rise in digital threats, the expertise of cyber investigators is increasingly critical. As of now, there have been no reported arrests in connection to the threats, as reported by 7NEWS.
