
Plano Police have apprehended a woman identified as Zulma Beltran, 49, from Richardson, for her role in a hit-and-run incident that occurred on December 10, which involved a 12-year-old girl on her way to school. Police took Beltran into custody at approximately 1 p.m. Thursday, charging her with a collision involving personal injury, a felony offense, as reported by FOX 4.
The collision, captured on camera, shows a dark-colored SUV striking the child as she traversed Westridge Drive, the vehicle in question, seemingly a Buick Enclave, can be seen hitting the girl, backing up, and subsequently driving away, the girl's screams piercing the relative silence as she is violently thrown several feet the camera's view a testament to the violence of the encounter, followed by her cries heard while she managed to gather herself and limp towards the school, according to The Dallas Morning News.
Fortunately, the girl sustained no serious injuries from the event, making it to Wilson Middle School and later reporting the incident to the school resource officer, the family confirmed to FOX 4. Subsequent investigations by the police eventually led to identifying Beltran as the driver who had admitted to the authorities about her involvement in the crash.
In a statement issued by Plano Police, Beltran is said to have "expressed deep regret" for her departure from the scene of the accident it became evident that public cooperation played a pivotal role in piecing together the narrative of that morning's event with the Plano Police Department conveying their gratitude to the community for their aid in identifying both the vehicle and the individual involved in the hit-and-run, which they say, will ensure "that justice is served and that our streets remain safe," as quoted in a statement obtained by FOX 4.
