Rome Tragedy as Woman Dies While Police Rush to Rep. Greene's Hoax Bomb ThreatSource: Google Street View

A tragic incident unfolded this week when a woman lost her life in a car crash involving a Rome, Georgia officer, who was responding to a bomb threat at the home of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. The threat later was confirmed to be a hoax. According to CBS News, the collision occurred as the officer, part of the bomb squad, was en route in his personal vehicle after the department received an alarming email with the subject line "For Palestine," threatening a bomb in Greene's mailbox.

Police spokesperson Kelly Madden told CBS News that the incident took place when 66-year-old Tammie Pickelsimer, the deceased, attempted to pull out from a private lot and subsequently was struck by the officer's vehicle. Georgia State Patrol reported that despite hitting the brakes, the officer's car hit the driver's side of Pickelsimer's car, resulting in fatal injuries. While the officer involved was not critically hurt, the Rome Police have yet to publicly identify him.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene expressed her condolences via social media, stating, "I'm heartsick right now. I was just informed that an innocent woman died today in an auto accident involving a member of the Rome Police bomb squad who was responding to the threat at my home." She emphasized the serious implications of violent political threats on law enforcement and public safety. In a subsequent message, Greene extended her "prayers are with Tammie Pickelsimer, her family, the officer who was injured, and the entire Rome Police Department," as reported by Fox5 Atlanta.

Investigations into the bomb threat quickly determined that the email originated from a Russian IP address. Rep. Greene's office is cooperating with local and federal law enforcement, including the FBI, to locate and prosecute the author of the hoax. The FBI did not immediately respond to CBS News' request for further details.
