In the early hours of yesterday, officers stationed in Roxbury made an arrest that led to a significant narcotics seizure. The Boston Police Department reports that at approximately 1:20 a.m., Jashaun Benalfew, a 22-year-old Roxbury resident, was arrested on drug-related charges following a routine traffic stop.
The vehicle, which had been attracting attention due to its excessively tinted windows, was stopped near Harrison Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard. Upon initiating contact with the vehicle's occupants, police discovered the front passenger was without a seatbelt, and further investigation revealed that the vehicle's registration had been revoked, prompting plans for it to be towed. The officers checked the identifications of those inside and found that the passenger, Benalfew, had an active warrant out for his arrest.
As per the Boston Police Department's official statement, officers then asked both occupants to exit the vehicle. Benalfew was handcuffed, and during the search that followed, officers found a large plastic bag containing suspected Crack Cocaine. This substance was later confirmed to weigh around sixteen grams.
Benalfew's detainment was due to an active warrant from Suffolk Superior Court, covering charges of "Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License." He now faces an additional charge, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B, and is set for arraignment at Roxbury District Court.
