An unusual chain of events unfolded in a quiet Sacramento neighborhood last Friday when a home intrusion escalated into a high-speed chase. According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, 40-year-old Emelio Correa attempted to break into a residence on the 7200 block of Chandler Drive. After failing to heed warnings from the homeowner, Correa was shot in the hand when the resident, fearing for his and his family’s safety, opened fire from inside his home.
The incident quickly took a turn when Correa fled to a nearby unoccupied house, commandeered a vehicle, and smashed through a garage door to escape. The Sheriff’s Office said that responding deputies gave chase, initiating a pursuit that lasted close to an hour. A series of tactical maneuvers, including tack strips and the Pursuit Immobilization Technique, were employed to bring Correa’s impromptu getaway to a halt near Highway 99 and Arno Road.
Following the termination of the pursuit, Correa was arrested and, after receiving medical attention for his injuries at a local hospital, was deemed fit for incarceration. He now faces multiple felony charges and was booked into the Sacramento County Jail with bail set at $100,000. "He is scheduled to appear in court on December 3," the Sheriff’s Office reported.
Under California's law, Correa’s mugshot has not been released to the public. The case continues to draw attention due to the dramatic nature of the events, including a lengthy vehicle chase involving local law enforcement.
