Sacramento residents can expect a change in weather starting tonight. According to the National Weather Service Sacramento, "Dry weather continues through this morning and afternoon, before an active weather pattern change will bring periods of accumulating mountain snow, rain, and breezy winds starting tonight and continuing into next week."
The National Weather Service is warning of patchy fog this morning, reducing visibility to 3/4 mile at Mather Airport and 1 mile at Sacramento International. Drivers should use low beam headlights. “Our first system has trended wetter and forecast precipitation totals have increased,” with rain expected to total 0.25 to 1.00 inch in the Valley, and more in the foothills and north of Interstate 80. Snowfall above 5,000 feet could bring 5 to 12 inches, especially in the Sierra Nevada and southern Cascades. Another system this weekend may bring more rain and snow, with up to 3.50 inches of rain in the Valley and 10-20 inches of snow above 6,000 feet.
A Pacific storm will bring gusty winds and rain to the Sacramento area on Saturday. Winds may reach over 40 mph in the central and northern Sacramento Valley, and up to 50 mph in the Sierra and foothills. "The National Blend of Models projects around a 30-80% chance of wind speeds greater than 40 mph in the central and northern Sacramento Valley." Rain will decrease by Saturday evening, but light showers may continue into Sunday. Temperatures will be in the upper 40s to upper 50s during the day, with overnight lows in the 30s and 40s. A dry period is expected from Tuesday to Wednesday, with possible gusty winds. Aviation may be affected by reduced visibility. Residents are advised to "stay tuned for updates to the forecast," as stated by the National Weather Service.
