The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office discovered a large bird fighting ring in South Sacramento. The discovery was made after authorities responded to a call about an unusual gathering of vehicles on Borden Road. Upon arrival, deputies found around 40 to 50 people attempting to leave the area, with some fleeing on foot and others crashing vehicles or abandoning them as they tried to escape, as reported by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office on their Facebook page, deputies recently uncovered a large bird fighting operation. They found seven injured birds and over two hundred others raised for fighting. Authorities also discovered drugs and antibiotics used to enhance the birds' performance. Sacramento County Animal Control took several birds for protection, and the injured ones will likely be euthanized. The Sheriff's Office also noted that bird fighting could contribute to the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza.

The investigation is being handled by Animal Control, the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office, and the California Department of Food and Agriculture, which will test the birds involved. The Sheriff's Office expects to make several arrests and is asking the public to report any animal abuse or suspicious activity.
