A somber update comes from Saginaw, where two residents lost their lives in a car crash, and a third is left in critical condition. The Saginaw Police Department disclosed that Demon M. Galvin and My’Eshia O. Barnes, both 24, were the fatalities in an accident that occurred around 3:50 a.m. on Sunday at the intersection of Hess Avenue and Birch Park Drive near Birch Park Apartments. Officers initially responded to a report of a car fire where they later discovered a black 2018 Dodge Durango on its passenger side, leaning against a brick pillar, ablaze after apparently hitting a utility pole, WNEM reported.
Barnes and another woman were ejected from the vehicle, whereas Galvin was trapped within the engulfed vehicle upon officers' arrival. Though officers attempted to control the flames with fire extinguishers their efforts proved futile. Saginaw Fire Department personnel successfully extinguished the fire, as the incident left one other, a 24-year-old woman from Bridgeport, severely injured and transported to a local hospital in a critical state, per the abc12 account.
The Saginaw County Multijurisdictional Traffic Crash Team, which is investigating the crash, has found that speed might have been a contributing factor. The tragedy marked the third and fourth traffic-related deaths in the city within just a few weeks, pointing towards a disturbing trend. In an earlier incident on November 15, a head-on collision between a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Chevrolet Express van resulted in both drivers dying on the scene, as stated by mlive.com.
Saginaw police are asking anyone with information about the Durango crash to come forward. They are requesting contact with Traffic Investigator Jeffrey Dehaan.
