In response to the anticipated severe low temperatures hitting Saint Paul, Ramsey County has ensured that those without shelter have a place to turn. Beginning last night at 7:30 p.m. and running until 7:30 a.m. this morning, the Law Enforcement Center lobby at 425 Grove St. provided a refuge from the freeze, welcoming any in need of warmth, as detailed by Ramsey County. This emergency measure stands as a temporary solution, offered no questions asked, ahead of the county's official Winter Warming Spaces slated to open later in December.
The lobby was temporarily repurposed to provide immediate shelter for the unsheltered, as law enforcement prepared to assist those facing unsafe weather conditions. With winter spaces not yet open, the Law Enforcement Center adapted to meet urgent needs.
For those in need of transportation or who simply require a break from the harsh cold, a call to 651-291-1111 provided a gateway to safety. According to the county's announcement, this is a low-barrier service, accessible to anyone requiring assistance.
Information on the forthcoming official Winter Warming Spaces, including updates and additional details, can be found on the county's warming space web page.
