The City of Salem Public Works Department has completed repairs on a critical 24-inch sewer main, restoring full wastewater service to West Salem residents. Service was fully restored by 9:30 p.m. last Saturday, reconnecting the area to the Willow Lake Wastewater Treatment Facility, according to the City of Salem.
The city completed the infrastructure repair on time. Before the work, West Salem residents were asked to conserve water, but now they can resume normal usage. The second 18-inch sewer main repair, finished last Saturday, helped reduce environmental impact to local waterways, as reported by the City of Salem.
The main sewers are back in operation, but warning signs remain in place at several locations due to potential bacterial contamination in the water. These warnings will stay up until water quality tests are complete. The City of Salem is working with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality to ensure proper cleanup. The city acknowledges the patience of West Salem and Keizer residents and the support of Emery and Sons Construction. Residents can now use water normally again.
