San Antonio is celebrating the holiday season with festive lights along the River Walk, as well as shopping opportunities at Market Square and La Villita. The river will be illuminated with thousands of lights until January 13, according to an announcement from the City of San Antonio.
For those planning to visit downtown during the holiday season, it is expected to be a busy area. To avoid traffic congestion and construction, visitors may consider using public transportation, ride-share services, or walking. "Visitors are strongly encouraged to arrive early to avoid disruptions caused by traffic and construction projects," the City of San Antonio advises.
For those driving downtown, the City provides a resource through the SAPark website, allowing users to view available City-owned garages and lots along with parking maps. Event parking rates, which can reach up to $15, will apply during weekends with large events, so it’s advisable to consider this when planning.
Two parking options, St. Mary's Garage and City Tower Garage, are located near the River Walk and are commonly used by visitors. The SAPark website also provides information on cost-saving parking opportunities, including free parking during designated hours on Downtown Tuesdays and City Tower Sundays.
