A San Antonio man finds himself in critical but stable condition following a morning altercation with car burglars that escalated into a shootout in the homeowner's West Side neighborhood. The incident occurred in the 2100 block of Farmsville Drive, near Marbach Road and South Ellison Drive.
The confrontation began when residents noticed an attempt to steal a vehicle from a neighbor’s driveway around 9:15 a.m. Monday. According to a KSAT report, a man approached the car burglar and was subsequently engaged in gunfire with individuals in a small white SUV and a gray sedan. The resident was shot in the back during the exchange.
The San Antonio police informed that after they responded to the shooting, they found the man wounded and hurriedly transported him to the hospital. The shooting, uncovering a larger narrative of community members willing to risk life and limb in defense of property, spoke to a broader sense of desperation etched into the face of everyday affairs. "A man confronted the car burglar and began exchanging gunfire with other people in two separate vehicles — a small white SUV and a gray sedan," a San Antonio police sergeant stated in an interview obtained by KSAT.
Per details from an MSN report, the victim's home also sustained damage with a bullet hitting the house during the shootout. The broken steering column of the burglarized car solidified the police's theory of an attempted car theft. Despite the harrowing series of events, the suspects in the SUV and sedan managed to flee the scene and remain at large as police work to gather descriptions and hunt down those responsible.
