A man was killed in a shooting in San Diego's Southcrest neighborhood last Wednesday in an incident that police are actively investigating. According to a news release from the City of San Diego, the San Diego Police Department received a call just before midnight, alerting them to the situation in the south alley of the 3700 block of National Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a 46-year-old Hispanic male, later identified as Manual Correa, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite the attempts to quickly render aid by both officers and bystanders, Correa was pronounced deceased at the scene. In the early stages of this ongoing investigation, it appears there was a verbal altercation between Correa and a group of individuals in a nearby parking lot. The argument escalated, leading both Correa and a male from the group to draw handguns allegedly and to exchange gunfire. At this time, police have yet to confirm if the other male was struck by the shooting.
As reported by Hoodline, San Diego Homicide Detectives have been called to take over the investigation, painstakingly working through evidence and witness statements to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting. With the motive still shrouded in uncertainty and no suspect information currently available for release, the detectives' efforts are ongoing to bring clarity and closure to the case.
Yesterday, a vehicle believed to be associated with the incident was discovered in the Ridgeview/Webster area after being flagged by the automated license plate reader system. Police detained several individuals at the residence where the vehicle was found. Although one male was arrested on firearms and narcotics charges, he is not believed to be a suspect in Correa's homicide. The San Diego Police Department is urging the community to come forward with any information by contacting the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 in the hopes of actively progressing in the pursuit of justice for Correa.
