As the Yuletide season approaches, San Diego residents are gearing up for a mix of closures and available services during the Christmas week. According to details from NBC San Diego, San Diego County public offices, family resource centers, library branches, and animal shelters will be closed on Christmas Day. Essential services such as law enforcement and emergency animal control response will not cease to operate and remain accessible to the community.
Amid the closures, those looking to embrace the outdoors can find solace as county parks, campgrounds, and neighborhood day-use parks will stay open for public enjoyment. Locations that will not be available include the Fallbrook Community Center, Lakeside Community Center, and several other community-focused sites. To reserve a camping spot, the public must utilize the online system, as the Department of Parks and Recreation will not staff its reservation phone line during the holiday. County public health clinics will also take a pause, slated to reopen promptly after the festive holiday on Dec. 26.
Meanwhile, FOX 5 San Diego reports on the City of San Diego's plans—a range of city services and facilities will not be available on Dec. 25, and curbside collection of trash, recyclables, and organic waste will be on hold on Wednesday. Residents are subject to a one-day collection delay holiday, with the schedule sliding accordingly for the remainder of the week. Those with private hauler services should consult with their providers for specific changes.
For active residents and tourists, some city facilities will be eager to welcome visitors, including Chollas Lake, Mission Trails Regional Park, and several city golf courses where standard rates will apply. The city’s dog parks, skate parks, and the Pacific Highlands Ranch Pump Track will also be available to enjoy. As San Diegans navigate the holiday week, parking enforcements on meters and time restrictions will temporarily halt on Wednesday, Dec. 25, with street sweeping routes not enforced until Tuesday. Violations outside these concessions will still be enforced, so parking signage must be observed for compliance.
