Residents of Santa Clara are set to see some major enhancements to their city's infrastructure. The $400M bond, Measure I, passed by voters this November, is gearing up to address several projects, including upgrades to fire stations, parks, and storm drain systems. Upon certification of the election results by the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters, these funds will help tackle over $600M in unfunded needs. According to the City of Santa Clara, the prioritization of projects within the Expenditure Plan is set to begin.
Mayor Lisa Gillmor expressed gratitude as the next step is quickly approached to kick off the groundwork. "We are incredibly grateful to the voters for recognizing the need to invest in our City and to maintain our roads, parks, and facilities that serve our community," she said, as per the City of Santa Clara. This bond, poised to ameliorate the city's public amenities greatly, is an essential move towards a sturdier future for Santa Clara.
The bond will finance various projects, with allocations for fire and police facilities, parks, and transportation infrastructure. Beginning in January, a recruitment process for the Citizens' Oversight Committee is expected to ensure that the bond proceeds are used responsibly. The city aims to have the committee act as a fiscal watchdog throughout the infrastructure overhaul.
