In an unexpected traffic snarl yesterday afternoon, drivers along Interstate 376 in Beaver County witnessed a small plane make an emergency landing on the highway. According to WPXI, the aircraft touched down near Exit 29 to Beaver Falls around 1 p.m.
Caught on video by a local citizen, the plane was seen riding along the Beaver Valley Expressway with other vehicles amidst the everyday traffic flow. Sean Leskanic provided the footage of the moments following the small plane's touchdown on the highway. WTAE acquired the video that depicted the scene between the New Galilee and Chippewa exits.
No injuries were reported from the incident, which was a relief after the unexpected plane landing. Medics were not needed, indicating it wasn't an emergency. The reason for the plane's rapid descent has not been shared, leaving spectators and authorities trying to decipher what happened.
While the cause of the landing hasn't been revealed, efforts have been made to gather more details. Pittsburgh's Action News 4 has contacted the Beaver County Airport Authority and the Allegheny County Airport Authority but is still awaiting a response. They are also waiting for a comment from Pennsylvania Turnpike authorities about the unexpected use of the roadway as a runway.
