An incident unfolded in Dearborn on Sunday evening when Jamila Alwan, a 70-year-old woman, was declared dead at the scene of a domestic violence incident. Police were called to the 7800 block of Reuter Street, near Tireman Avenue, and upon arrival, they discovered that Alwan had been fatally stabbed, with the Dearborn Fire Department confirming her death soon after, as reported by WXYZ-TV.
The Dearborn Police have arrested the victim's son, a man in his 30s, in connection with the stabbing. While investigators continue to piece together the events leading up to the incident, the motive remains unclear. However, authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat, as stated in a police department release and supported by neighbor accounts. The scene was quickly secured, and the suspect was apprehended, according to FOX 2 Detroit.
Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin expressed his sentiments in a press release, stating, "We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the victim. Senseless acts of this nature can shake the community to its core. We will continue this investigation diligently in order to deliver justice for the victim," WXYZ-TV reports.
This incident follows a string of domestic violence cases in the Metro Detroit area. In November, a woman in Bedford Township was accused of stabbing her husband following a dispute, and in July, a fatal shooting occurred in Orion Township when a 67-year-old man, despite an extreme risk protection order, broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home with violent intent, as reported by The Detroit News.
