An 80-year-old man from St. Cloud has been sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison for crimes connected to child sexual abuse materials, according to a recent announcement by the U.S. District Court. James Edward Cox, Jr. pled guilty to receiving and possessing these materials after police found hundreds of images and videos during a search of his home earlier this year.
Local authorities initially executed a search warrant on January 19, uncovering the disturbing content on devices within Cox’s residence. This discovery prompted further investigation, leading to an arrest on March 5. Subsequent analysis confirmed that the materials depicted sexual abuse of infants and young girls, with one video being circulated by Cox online to seek out similar content, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office. In a chilling detail, Cox himself described his actions as searching for "little girls" during a monitored jail call.
The severity of Cox's sentence reflects the efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation. "Actively scouring the dark web to find and collect sexual abuse content of children perpetuates the suffering of innocent victims around the world," stated David Pezzutti of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Orlando, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office news release. "This sentencing reflects the gravity of this predator’s crimes, as well as HSI’s commitment to shedding a light on the dark web to protect children from harm."
