A St. Cloud man stands accused of first-degree murder following a June shooting in Kissimmee that left another man dead, local authorities disclosed.
According to a report by the Osceola County State Attorney's Office, on June 12, deputies responded to reports of gunfire at the intersection of Fortune Road and Bill Beck Boulevard, where they found 44-year-old Nicholas Brank mortally wounded next to a bicycle. He was subsequently transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. Officials say Kevin Duda, a 55-year-old resident, was identified as the suspect in this fatal incident.
The suspect's capture came after a brief chase on foot ending at a retail store, with the State Attorney's Office report stating that deputies tracked down and apprehended Duda days after the shooting incident.
On Wednesday, Duda faced a grand jury, which subsequently returned an indictment for First-Degree Murder with a Firearm, according to the official statement by the State Attorney's Office. Though an indictment does not imply guilt, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
The formal legal process will unfold as updates are available on the Osceola County Clerk of Court’s website.
