A St. Louis man has been brought up on multiple charges after allegedly stealing a motor vehicle and fleeing from an accident scene, among other offenses. According to the St. Louis County Police Department, 20-year-old Drevon Fitzpatrick, residing on Biddle Street, is facing charges for an incident that unfolded at a convenience store on Lemay Ferry Road.

The charges include Stealing of a Motor Vehicle, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Resisting/Interfering with Arrest for a felony, Stealing, and Property Damage Second Degree. The prosecuting attorney's office noted that Fitzpatrick is being held on a $150,000 cash only, no 10% bond. It must be remembered that charges are merely an accusation, and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Recounting the events, the probable cause statement—which was made public—indicates that on Monday, a victim reported her gray 2013 Hyundai Sonata stolen from the aforementioned convenience store. The victim alleged that the suspect not only took the car but also discarded her cellphone out of the vehicle, causing damage to it. The victim's credit cards and other personal items were also reportedly inside the vehicle at the time of theft.

The responding officer spotted the stolen car and attempted to pull it over and watched as the suspect tried to escape, eventually crashing into a curb, disabling the vehicle, according to the official statement from the St. Louis County Police Department. Fitzpatrick allegedly exited the car and tried to flee on foot before being apprehended by the officer. The incident led to over $1,000 in damages to the vehicle, particularly to one of the wheels and its wheel well.
