The St. Louis community is preparing to lay to rest 16-year-old Colin Brown, a local hockey standout whose life was cut tragically short. Brown's funeral mass is scheduled for Friday at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, as reported by First Alert 4. In the lead up to the service, a memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Christian Brothers College High School, 1850 De La Salle Drive, St. Louis. The obituary of the young athlete can be found online for those wishing to pay their respects.
The shockwaves of this incident continue to reverberate through the community as Brown, a talented player for the Christian Brothers College High School Cadets, fell victim to a stray bullet while returning from a game. Following his death, his team and the broader hockey community have worked to keep his memory alive. Brown's team took to the ice for the first time after his death on Saturday, and as reported by Wood La Cantine Gourmande, the St. Louis Blues held a moment of silence to honor him before their game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Besides sharing memories and moments of silence, the community has rallied in different ways to show support. Spectrum Local News reports that in addition to the funeral services, there was a walk in Brown's memory at the Affton Ice Rink. Furthermore, two hockey organizations with which he was affiliated are organizing a coat drive as a tribute.
To support the causes that Brown was passionate about, his obituary suggests making donations to CBC High School or to DAWG Nation, a charity focused on assisting amateur ice hockey players and their families in times of crisis. The tragic loss of Brown occurred after he was struck by what police say appears to have been a stray bullet on Interstate 55 in St. Louis. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police have not yet named a suspect, and the investigation into his sudden death is still ongoing, according to information obtained by First Alert 4.
