Four horses, previously reported stolen from a northeast Oklahoma City property, have thankfully been recovered and returned, with an 18-year-old suspect in custody. According to KOCO News, the Oklahoma City Police Department responded to the theft report near Northeast 63rd Street and Westminster Road where they uncovered evidence of the crime, including a cut fence and disrupted surveillance camera footage.
The investigation rapidly progressed when the victim informed the police upon identifying one of the horses, leading to the whereabouts of Kenneth Colston, the suspect. In a statement obtained by News 4, the affidavit asserts that Colston admitted to stealing one horse last Thursday and, along with two accomplices, returning two days later for the others. Trading one and moving the livestock a mere one and half miles from the scene of the crime, in Spencer, exposed a trail all too easy to follow.
Police officials managed to secure the horses' safe return; they are now back with the rightful owners. Oklahoma City Police Department Public Information Officer Dillion Quirk confirmed the horses' well-being and updated on the status of the accused. "Colston was booked on a larceny of domestic animals charge," Quirk told OKC FOX. The bond for Colston has been set at $3,000.
While Colston remains the only individual arrested in connection with the theft so far, local authorities have not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests. "Our investigators need your help getting them back to their rightful owner," an Oklahoma City Police Department representative urged the public – a call that, given the horses' safe recovery, was evidently heeded, as per OKC FOX. Anyone with additional information on the case is still encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 405-235-7300 or submit tips online, referencing case #24-91616, where a cash reward could be possible.
