An arrest has been made in connection with a hit-and-run in Gibsonton that resulted in the death of a young motorcyclist. Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced that 27-year-old Jonathan Saldana Rojas was apprehended yesterday, following the issuance of a warrant for his arrest on Thursday. According to a WFLA report, Rojas is alleged to have been driving a white sedan that collided with the motorcyclist on the intersection of Symmes Road and Southwind Lake Drive.
As noted by the authorities, Rojas reportedly fled the scene after the accident. The victim, identified as 18-year-old Isaiah Raposa, was transported to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. In a distressing account of the aftermath, Isaiah's mother, Jessica Washington, lamented her loss in a statement obtained by FOX 13 News, "How heartless can somebody be that you just leave somebody's child on the side of the road and like he was nothing?"
The arrest of Rojas was conducted by the Pasco County deputies, leading to his custody and pending transfer to the Orient Road Jail as affirmed by Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. It was around 7:30 p.m. on the evening of the incident when Rojas was allegedly driving the sedan involved in the fatal crash. This information came from a Tampa Bay Times article.
Washington also shared with FOX 13 News the heartbreaking details of her son's life and ambitions. "I just didn't sleep for two nights, just thinking about the fact that he was out there just not caring," she said. Isaiah had graduated from high school the previous year and had earned a certificate in welding.
