A suspect was arrested last night following an alleged road rage incident that escalated into a stabbing in Boston's Allston neighborhood. Boston police responded to a reported stabbing near 479 Cambridge St. around 6 p.m., where they found a man who had been injured, according to WCVB. A witness told WCVB, "He was talking, so that was a good indicator, people were helping him and police were already on the way."
The victim, identified as a tow truck driver employed by The Brighton Towing Company, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Witnesses at the scene described the altercation that occurred in front of Lone Star Taco Bar, which was subsequently captured by an MBTA bus's camera. Detectives were later able quickly to piece together the events leading up to the assault.
John Burgo, 40, of Brockton, was apprehended by state police troopers while driving on Storrow Drive and was charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, assault to murder, and assault and battery. Boston police officials stated, "After further investigation, detectives determined that the suspect was involved in a prior road rage incident with the victim that occurred on Tuesday, December 3, 2024," as reported by 7NEWS. Burgo is expected to be arraigned in Brighton District Court.
Following the arrest, police were able to confirm this was not the first encounter between Burgo and the victim relating directly to road rage. Described as a Buick Encore, Burgo's vehicle was seen fleeing toward Brookline after the stabbing, with numerous eyewitnesses present. He was later taken into custody on Clarendon Street. The investigation into this incident continues as the community reflects on the violence witnessed on the streets of Allston.
