A pursuit through Portage County ended with the arrest of a man yesterday after sheriff's deputies attempted to apprehend him on several outstanding warrants. The Portage County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies spotted a vehicle, which they recognized as belonging to a suspect with active felony warrants for failure to appear on domestic violence charges. The vehicle was seen leaving a residence in Ravenna Township.
The suspect, Robert Hanning, allegedly initiated the chase upon noticing the patrol car, leading deputies on an erratic drive. According to a statement obtained by FOX8 News, Hanning sped through a residential area at speeds of 40 to 50 mph, disregarding stop signs. His attempt to evade law enforcement came to an abrupt end when he drove off-road and into his front yard, where he was subsequently detained.
Hanning now faces additional charges as a result of the pursuit. These include failure to comply, reckless operation, distracted driving, and a seatbelt violation. He was taken to the Portage County Justice Center following the incident. "Sheriff Bruce D. Zuchowski commends his Road Division for an outstanding job getting this criminal off our streets," the Portage County Sheriff's Office heralded in an official Facebook post.
"We remain dedicated to the citizens of Portage County and will continue to do whatever it takes to keep you and your family safe," stated Sheriff Zuchowski, as reported by Cleveland19 News. This incident showcases the ongoing efforts of local law enforcement to apprehend individuals accused of domestic violence and other offenses, maintaining public safety as a paramount concern.
