A man suspected of DUI caused a fatal collision on Interstate 5 on Sunday night, claiming the life of a 35-year-old Indiana man. As reported by KING5, the accident occurred just north of the Pierce County line in Milton and resulted in substantial closures of the southbound lanes for several hours.
The Washington State Patrol (WSP) has identified the suspect as a 26-year-old Auburn man who, while under the influence, fatally collided into the rear of another car, causing both vehicles to spin out. A passenger in the suspect's vehicle was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way, and one other passenger was left unharmed in the wreck that left both cars totaled. KOMO News adds that the identity of the Indiana man will remain undisclosed pending family notification.
Following the incident, the driver of the Mustang, which according to FOX13 Seattle, was the suspect's vehicle, was arrested and is facing charges of DUI and vehicular homicide. WSP also mentioned the possibility of obstruction charges for a passenger in the suspect vehicle due to undisclosed reasons.
While the roadway has since been reopened, the WSP's investigation into the tragic occurrence remains ongoing.
