A man suspected in a North Portland stabbing incident died following his arrest on Wednesday night. According to a press release by the Portland Police Bureau, officers responded to a call at approximately 10:05 p.m. at a convenience store located on the 1500 block of North Going Street. They found an injured adult male who was quickly transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The search for the alleged assailant led officers to the area around North Interstate Avenue and North Humboldt Street, where they found another adult male fitting the suspect's description. The Portland Police report stated that the suspect was detained without resistance or the use of force. A request for EMS to medically assess the suspect was made after he was handcuffed.

The situation took a dire turn when the suspect, whose name has yet to be released pending family notification, lost consciousness before EMS could arrive. Officers who were on the scene initiated CPR until relieved by the paramedics. However, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Portland Police's Homicide Unit Detectives have taken over the investigation to ascertain the cause and manner of death, which will ultimately be determined by the medical examiner's findings.
