Tension loomed over Stony Point High School on a recent Tuesday afternoon, as the campus was thrust into a lockdown following reports of a suspicious student potentially armed with a weapon. The situation, which stirred a considerable response from local law enforcement, was eventually resolved without any threats to the safety of the students or staff, according to CBS Austin.
The lockdown, initiated out of an abundance of caution, lasted until approximately 5 p.m., and thereafter, normal school activities resumed. Round Rock ISD, in a letter to families, expressed its gratitude to the student who reported the incident, and to police for their rapid and thorough response. "We are grateful to the student who reached out to share this information, and we are thankful for the support of our law enforcement partners," a Round Rock ISD spokesperson said. Despite the resolved tension, the incident led to the extension of the school day, with dismissal delayed beyond the usual 4:20 p.m. end time.
The Round Rock Police Department, working in conjunction with the Round Rock ISD Police, located the student in question and determined there was no threat present on campus. No weapon was found and no arrests were made, as detailed in a statement provided by the Round Rock school district to Austin American-Statesman.com.
Throughout the incident and the subsequent investigation, the safety protocols put in place by Round Rock ISD proved effective, ensuring that students and staff remained secure during an uncertain situation. “We take the safety of our students and staff very seriously,” the Round Rock ISD spokesperson added. After the scare, buses resumed their routes, and parents were able to collect their students as the lockdown lifted and a collective sigh of relief was undoubtedly felt across the campus community.
