Last Saturday afternoon, a 44-year-old woman was injured and unable to descend the Aiea Heights Trail. The Honolulu Fire Department responded to the call at 12:29 p.m. and had five units with 14 personnel on site by 12:44 p.m., just 15 minutes later, according to reports from Star Advertiser.
Firefighters reached the trailhead on foot while another unit set up a landing zone for the department's Air 1 helicopter. The rescue team arrived at the woman by 1:04 p.m. and provided a medical evaluation along with basic life support, as reported by KITV and Star Advertiser.
An individual was airlifted and safely taken to a landing zone by 1:33 p.m., where she was transferred to an EMS ambulance for further care. This operation shows the skill of Honolulu’s first responders, who handle both city and rugged terrain. The Honolulu Fire Department reminded people: "In case of an emergency, your cell phone can be a lifesaver. Ensure that your battery is fully charged prior to your hike," and suggested bringing a backup battery, as stated by KITV.
