The Tacoma Arts Commission has invested $148,000 in grants to fund 21 local arts initiatives, ensuring diverse cultural experiences flourish throughout Tacoma in 2025, as reported by the city's official news release. This funding supports a broad spectrum of creative endeavors, from cultural festivals and culinary arts to literary and cross-disciplinary arts projects designed for public engagement in various neighborhoods.
"We’re proud to be funding these arts projects that will take place around Tacoma’s many neighborhoods,” Tacoma Arts Commission Chair Heide Fernandez-Llamazares shared enthusiastically and with conviction of the ongoing efforts to foster the city's cultural community by supporting historically under-funded communities and the anticipation to witness the resulting societal impacts and artistic expressions generated by these projects was clear in her statement, as per the City of Tacoma's news release. The grants will bankroll an array of events including nine arts festivals, a couple of tailored educational programs for young minds, and interactive visual art experiences, among others.
The array of funded projects is a testament to the commission’s commitment to accessibility and equity in the arts sector. Recipients include the ArtCity: Tacoma Mapping Project with a $6,000 grant, the 27th Annual Asia Pacific New Year Celebration featuring India by the Asia Pacific Cultural Center with a $9,000 allotment, and several other community-centric arts initiatives ranging from music concerts to hands-on workshops and cross-disciplinary explorations of health and food justice.
Notable among the funded projects, the Black Night Market LLC was granted $9,000 for a series of events that include Holidays, Poetry After Dark, and Art Soiree. Meanwhile, the Painting Panda Pottery Studio LLC received equal funding for a collaborative art installation named “Kai's Room”, these investments reflecting the Commission's vision of a diverse cultural tapestry throughout Tacoma’s neighborhoods. A comprehensive list of all recipients and their respective grants, along with further details on the Community Arts Projects funding program, which is one of several initiatives led by the Commission to ensure the continual growth of the arts in Tacoma, can be found on the City of Tacoma's website.
