The City of Tacoma has opened its Tacoma Artists Initiative Program (TAIP) for 2025-2026 funding applications, per a recent announcement. This opportunity is extended to individual artists working in various disciplines, from literary to digital and interdisciplinary arts. Aspiring TAIP applicants can seek to receive a grant of $4,000 to fuel the creation or completion of their work.

The City of Tacoma stated in a statement that TAIP aims to foster local talent while also encouraging artists to present their work in free public events within the community. Applicants have until 11:59 PM on January 27, 2025, to apply, giving them a fair lead time to submit their proposals online.

Eligibility for the grant requires artists to be Tacoma residents, over 18, and actively engaged in their art practice. However, with a commitment to inclusivity and equity as outlined in Tacoma City Council Resolution 40622, the projects and public components that articulate the experiences of those historically edged out to the margins - BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, or individuals with disabilities - those who have been voiced their struggles for racial justice or faced socio-economic barriers, are given priority. Applications are vetted against set criteria to ensure a fair and competitive distribution of funds.
