Tacoma residents, particularly seniors, are invited to a town hall discussion with Deputy Mayor John Hines on the issues and opportunities the aging population faces. The event, named "Senior Summit," will take place on Saturday between 10 AM and noon at the Eliseo Senior Living Main Campus, located at 1301 N. Highlands Parkway.
"Tacoma is an aging city, and we face a future where residents over 50 will outnumber those under five," Hines stated, emphasizing the demographic shift and its implications. "This shift presents not just challenges, but opportunities to build a community where aging is celebrated as an asset." The Deputy Mayor expressed his eagerness to delve into these conversations, noting that the perspectives and issues raised will be instrumental in shaping future policies. According to a statement from the City of Tacoma news release, the town hall will revisit the city's Age-Friendly City Action Plan adopted in 2021 and call for community input on necessary updates.
The summit is free of charge and will include refreshments. The event aims to promote dialogue and inform attendees of the various resources available to them. Local agencies will set up booths to present service information and field questions from attendees, creating a comprehensive environment for community assistance.
