This particular unit, a fundamental piece of Tacoma's alternative response strategy, is persistently striving to properly connect the homeless with necessary support and resources.
In the entrenchment against societal woes, quantifiable metrics are invaluable, and it's here where the HEAL Team excels. According to a recent update by City of Tacoma, they have notably managed to nearly triple their "on-time" completion rate for outreach requests, jumping from an initial 30 percent to an impressive 82 percent. What's more, there's a decreased reliance on police for encampment issues and better, reinforced communication with community members through upgraded real-time updates via the 311 service system.
Methodical in their approach, the HEAL Team leverages a data-driven dashboard, accentuating the city's commitment to transparency and accountability. This analytical compass has helped guide their journey toward community wellness. Data gleaned from the dashboard—made available through an official city statement—illustrates tangible results. Until the end of November, the team has initiated contact with 2,798 individuals living without homes, landing essential services for 1,039, shelter for 276, detox programs for 12, and referred 15 individuals to the HOPE Team for further aid.
