The foundation isn't just looking to up the ante on the parade itself, but also to markedly increase its scholarship program for Hillsborough County high school students, a move reflecting the event's mission of propelling equity in education. "This year's theme, 'Strength to Love,' embodies Dr. King’s message of compassion and care for those in need," according to a statement from the City of Tampa, highlighting the commitment of Dr. King's ideals in serving the less fortunate, including the impoverished and jobless.

Former state representative and Hillsborough County commissioner Les Miller has been named as the Grand Marshal, a choice indicative of his civic legacy.
