Today marks one year since the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office lost Lieutenant Craig King, a dedicated officer who served his community since 2003. King was promoted to Lieutenant in 2019, and by late 2020, was fighting a battle with COVID-19 that he tragically lost on December 19, 2020. According to the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office, the Confinement Division Lieutenant is remembered by his community, colleagues, and family with deep respect and fondness.
King, who began his career at TCSO in 2003, quickly moved through the ranks, earning the title of Lieutenant and the responsibility that comes along with it, his team, overseen with a mix of stern duty and heartfelt care, likely did not foresee the challenge 2020 would bring not just globally but personally as the lieutenant contracted COVID-19 in November of that year, King's struggle with the disease stretched through the month, ending with his passing just before the year's end.
In October of 2021, Lieutenant King's commitment and sacrifice were formally recognized when his name was etched into the stone of the National Peace Officers' Memorial, symbolizing the finality of a watch that ended too soon but left indelible marks of integrity and service within the TCSO and beyond. The memorial stands not only as a testament to King's legacy but also as a reminder of the inherent risks law enforcement officers face, especially during unprecedented times such as the pandemic.
