A Montessori school teacher was tragically killed in an accident that also left five children hospitalized. Alexia Rosales, 22, has been identified as the victim who was struck and pinned underneath a car at Excelled Montessori. According to CBS Austin, the incident took place around 4 p.m. on Thursday during a routine pick-up after a school event.
The Bexar County Sheriff's Department reported that a mother, in an unfortunate set of movements, unknowingly accelerated her vehicle, causing a collision with another car which ultimately involved Rosales and the children. The sheriff, Javier Salazar, indicated in a press conference that the incident appeared to be non-criminal. Excelled Montessori is said to have grief and trauma counselors available following this heartbreaking event, having also decided to shut its doors on Friday to cope with the aftermath.
In the wake of the accident, three of the injured children along with another teacher have been released from the hospital. The details regarding the status of the remaining two children remain undisclosed. Excelled Montessori took efforts to acknowledge Rosales' contributions, described in a statement as "a bright light in all our lives," according to a posting on their website found by News 4 San Antonio. They praised her affection and impact on the entire school community.
