Teen Duo Charged in Deadly Duquesne Shooting, Suspect Allegedly Orchestrated Attack from JailSource: Google Street View

Two teenage individuals are now facing serious charges in connection to a Duquesne shooting that claimed the life of 23-year-old Niejah Hill and injured another man, who remained unnamed in a recent incident this past October. The suspects identified are 17-year-old Daemond Artemus, already in custody for a separate homicide charge, and John Perry, age 18. According to a WPXI report, Artemus is alleged to have orchestrated the attack from his jail cell.

Artemus was already detained for a previous shooting that occurred in McKeesport last fall, and the male victim of the recent Duquesne incident had been scheduled to testify against him at the time of the attack. Coinciding with this, Perry is accused of aiding Artemus by breaking into the victim’s residence, as conveyed in a criminal complaint that notes Perry’s presence at the house just hours before the crime. Both teenagers are now facing charges of homicide and conspiracy, among others, as per the reporting from WTAE.

Using phone records and the county jail's inmate phone system, authorities have uncovered troubling communication between Artemus and Perry. The evidence shows they discussed details of the upcoming homicide case, and it appears Artemus believed the unnamed man was acting as an informant. In a chilling phone call on September 23, Perry mentioned a plan to pretend to befriend the man and leave a window unlocked for a break-in.

In an eerily prescient choice of words, Artemus was recorded during one call saying he does not care who puts the "ticket in but that (expletive) dead." Moreover, following the promise of victory, Artemus mentioned celebrating with "taco shells," - a reference that investigators understood to signify shell casings. Investigators also managed to pinpoint Perry's cellphone to the vicinity of the crime scene at the time of the shooting. Following up on these leads, both teenagers were charged and are currently housed at Allegheny County Jail, awaiting further proceedings in their cases, as WTAE reported.
