A 17-year-old boy's life was cut tragically short in Minneapolis, after being shot outside his home and collapsing inside, despite police efforts at lifesaving intervention. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara detailed the incident, stating that on the night of December 16, around 7:13 p.m., officers from the 3rd Precinct were dispatched following a report of a shooting on the 1100 Block of 25 St E, as reported by the Minneapolis Police Department. On arrival, they found the young man with multiple gunshot injuries.
Despite administering a chest seal and performing CPR, the police were unable to save the teenage boy, whose identity has not been disclosed. The incident, which unfolded after the victim was apparently amongst a grouping outside, prompts a deeper look at the gun-related violence that consistently shadows the community. Preliminary findings suggest that shots were fired while he was outside his residence and, after being struck, he retreated indoors where he succumbed to his injuries, O’Hara reported.
No suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting at this time, and the investigation is ongoing. MPD Forensic Scientists have processed the crime scene in search of evidence, and homicide detectives are piecing together the circumstances of the shooting.
"Another act of gun violence and another juvenile shot dead," Chief O’Hara remarked on the disturbing trend of youthful lives being lost, in a statement released by the department. "This senseless act of gun violence has destroyed another young life and left another family with a life of grief." He appealed to the community for information, underlining the necessity for collective effort to quell the violence pervasive in the neighborhoods.
