Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell has announced the indictment of two Tempe parents on charges of severely abusing their children. The indictment, as reported by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, includes Brittney Furch and Demetrius Jones, both accused of inflicting serious injuries upon their four and twelve-year-old children.
Tempe Police responded to a call on November 25, at a local hospital where they found the two children with bruises, swelling, and what appeared to be symptoms of a nonfatal drowning. The indictment against Furch and Jones includes two counts of child abuse, categorized as a Class Two Felony, and a dangerous crime against children, as well as four counts of Class Four Felony child abuse, as detailed by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office. As per the legal system, a criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
Furch is currently being held in custody on a secured appearance bond of $100,000. Jones' secured bond has been set at $75,000, as per the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.
